Hundreds of Volunteers with 1,000 Trees Help Make A Difference
In just one day, more than 600 volunteers planted 1,009 native trees throughout Tucson as part of "1,000 Trees for Tucson," TEP's Make A Difference Day project in partnership with Tucson Clean & Beautiful and Citi, Cox Communications, Arizona Daily Star and the City of Tucson.
The newly planted trees will create habitat, provide cleaner air and lower temperatures.
The event started at 8:00 a.m. with an opening ceremony featuring Tucson Mayor Bob Walkup at the Thomas Jay County Park and Littletown Community Center, 6465 S. Craycroft Road. The Tucson Fire Department Honor Guard welcomed volunteers and MIX FM broadcast live from the event.
From there, volunteers picked up tools and trees and ventured out to more than 50 planting sites including churches, public and private schools, nonprofit organization facilities, neighborhoods and city and county parks.
More than 100 volunteers planted 400 15-gallon Native Velvet Mesquite trees at a Habitat for Humanity Tucson subdivision. More than 150 volunteers planted 60 5-gallon and 40 15-gallon Thornless Mesquite trees at five City of Tucson parks.
Whether shipping out trees, planting or fertilizing, volunteers learned about trees and beautified our community.
Thank you for making a difference!
