Super Off-Peak Demand Time-of-Use EV Plan
Our Super Off-Peak Demand Time-of-Use Electric Vehicle (EV) Plan offers the owners of battery and plug-in hybrid EVs an opportunity to reduce their monthly bills by charging their EVs during the super off-peak hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and shifting the majority of their other electricity usage to off-peak hours.
How does the EV Time-of-Use plan work?
This plan includes higher “on-peak” rates during periods when most customers use more energy and lower “off-peak” rates during lower energy use times. The plan rewards customers with lower rates for shifting their energy usage away from on-peak hours.
What are the potential advantages of this plan?
Using most of your power during off-peak hours and charging your EV during the super off-peak overnight hours could significantly reduce your monthly bills.
By adding a demand rate to the traditional time-of-use pricing structure, customers on the Demand Time-of-Use EV plan have even more opportunity to lower their energy costs by making smart choices about when they use energy.
TEP's service costs are driven by the need to satisfy customers’ highest demand, even if it only occurs once each month. When that maximum usage level goes down, so does the cost of providing all of our customers with safe, reliable service.
Our Demand Time-of-Use EV plan rewards customers who do their part to reduce the peak demand on the electric grid during peak usage periods. Reducing the peak energy demand promotes more efficient use of our energy resources and helps limit future rate increases.
What are the potential disadvantages of this plan?
If you use a lot of energy by running several large appliances as well as your heating or cooling system during on-peak hours, your energy costs could increase under this plan. Changes in your household’s energy habits may be necessary to achieve bill savings. The more you are able avoid using energy during on-peak hours, the more you can save. Your savings will be based on your actual usage and patterns.

How can I lower my energy costs under this plan?
- Operate large appliances (television, heating/cooling, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ovens, etc.) during off-peak hours and charge your EV during super off-peak hours.
- Don’t tower your power by using multiple electric appliances at the same time during on-peak hours.
- Adjust your thermostat to reduce heating and cooling during on-peak hours or when you’re away, or program your smart thermostat to only operate during off-peak hours.
- Install timers on electric water heaters and recirculation pumps so they operate mainly during off-peak hours.
- Set timers on pool and spa pumps to run during off-peak hours.
- Install LED lighting in your home and turn off all but needed lights during on-peak hours.
- Enjoy electricity-consuming hobbies during the off-peak hours.
Time-of-Use EV Hours
Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If Independence Day falls on Saturday, the weekend schedule applies on the preceding Friday, July 3. If Independence Day falls on Sunday, the weekend schedule applies on the following Monday, July 5. Weekend off-peak hours are from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Super off-peak hours are 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. seven days a week.
Major holidays include Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. If Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on Saturdays, the weekend schedule applies on the preceding Fridays, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. If Christmas Day and New Year’s Day fall on Sundays, the weekend schedule applies on the following Mondays, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. Weekend off-peak hours are from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Super off-peak hours are 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. seven days a week.

Plan charges and conditions
- This plan includes usage-based Energy and Demand Charges for on-peak and off-peak hours and a Basic Service Charge that covers some fixed-service costs such as metering, service lines, customer service and billing functions.
- This plan is available to residential electric customers in a single-family residence or apartment that are individually metered.
- Customers must have a qualified highway-approved battery or plug-in hybrid EV.
- Customers may switch to another plan once within a rolling 12-month period.
