With the Interruptible Service rate, eligible commercial customers can receive a bill credit by allowing Tucson Electric Power to interrupt their electric service, allowing TEP to more efficiently manage energy resources, especially when the demand for power is high.
Participating customers will receive a bill credit for each of the five summer months in which an interruption may occur. The length and frequency of service interruptions are limited and TEP will give customers a 30-minute notice before each interruption. TEP can interrupt service remotely at any time for any reason.
Interruptible Service is available to customers on rate plans for service over 3,000 kilowatts (kW) and that are willing to curtail at least 1,000 kW of electric demand at a single service point.
Participating customers will receive a monthly credit for each of the five summer months in which an interruption may occur. The monthly credit will be calculated using TEP’s Market Value Capacity Price (MVCP), which reflects opportunity costs and other costs, and the amount of interruptible capacity, measured in kilowatts, that participating customers agreed to curtail.
In 2016, the average MVCP that will be used to calculate bill credits is $1.163 per kW.
Participating customers are responsible for the expense, installation and maintenance of communication, relay and breaker equipment needed to qualify for service under this special rate. TEP must inspect and approve customer equipment. TEP is not responsible for any loss or damage caused by service interruptions.
