North Alvernon Substation

TEP plans to upgrade the 46-kilovolt (kV) North Alvernon Substation located in midtown Tucson to improve service reliability for neighbors and other customers in the area.

Built in 1972, the substation’s two transformers, associated switchgear, breakers, and electrical insulation have reached the end of their life expectancy. TEP will replace antiquated equipment with modern, more reliable systems that allow for enhanced voltage control, contingency support to existing circuits and greater flexibility for system operators responding to outages.
