Sundt Augmentation (solar thermal)
Solar Thermal System | Tucson, AZ
More than 500 steel mirrors focus sunlight on a 1,400-foot-long solar receiver mounted atop nearly two dozen 100-foot towers next to the H. Wilson Sundt Generating Station. The heat generates steam that boosts the plant’s output by up to 5 megawatts (MW) during peak demand periods without added emissions. Over the course of a year, the system will help produce enough additional power to serve nearly 1,000 Tucson homes.
