TEP Smart Charge

Join Smart Charge, our EV Managed Charging Program, and get paid to support grid efficiency

The Smart Charge Program incentivizes residential customers to modify their charging habits while earning bill credits.

How it Works

TEP’s Smart Charge Program aims to manage EV charging load and promote efficient use of our electric grid. The program incentivizes residential participants who adjust their charging behavior to support the grid during times of high energy demand. That might include shifting and staggering charging times from on-peak to off-peak times to help avoid higher energy costs. Customers will partner with TEP and our implementation partner, Bidgley, to adjust charging habits.

Smart Charge Program

TEP’s Managed Charging Program Smart Charge offers residential customers the option to be compensated if the customer:

  • Owns an eligible vehicle (please see manufacturer list below)
  • Is on a Time-of-Use (TOU) rate
  • Agrees to Terms and Conditions
  • Participates in Peak Events

  • Maintain control and opt-out of peak events if needed
  • Get insight into EV charging patterns for future grid impacts

Vehicles Eligible for Information about Charging Behaviors and Grid Resilience**

Audi, Jeep, Rivian, Cadillac, Lincoln, Volvo, Chevrolet, Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler and Porsche

Peak Event

  • Summer (May – September) M-F 3-7 p.m.
  • Winter (October – April) M-F 6-9 a.m., 6-9 p.m.

Ad-hoc peak events may be called with 24-hour notice

* Customers always have the option to opt-out of an event. Opting out will impact monthly participation compensation
