Vail to Tortolita 230 Kilovolt Transmission Line

Tucson Electric Power (TEP) is planning to develop and improve transmission lines between TEP’s Vail Substation located southeast of Tucson and its Tortolita Substation located north of Marana in Pinal County to strengthen reliability and serve growing energy needs throughout the Tucson area. In a joint project with the Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), TEP will replace an existing 115-kilovolt (kV) line with a 64-mile double-circuit 230 kV line. One circuit will interconnect with TEP’s energy grid.

In January 2021, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) approved TEP’s application to amend a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC) for the project.
