Full Study Process

The Full Study Process is required for interconnecting Small Generating Facilities if they are:

  • Greater than 2 MW but less than 20 MW
  • Not certified
  • Certified, but failed to pass the Fast Track Process or the 10 kW Inverter Process

WHAT YOU DO

  • Complete Attachment 2 of the SGIP
  • Submit your $1,000 deposit to TEP
  • Provide site control for your project

WHAT TEP DOES

  • Reviews your Interconnection Request, acknowledges the processing fee received
  • Notifies you that the proposed interconnection request is complete
  • Holds a scoping meeting with customer 10 business days after the Interconnection Request is deemed complete.

Study 1 - Feasibility Study (Optional)

An optional Feasibility Study examines whether the interconnection will be possible. It includes powerflow and short circuit analyses as well as a high-level estimate of cost responsibility and a non-binding, good-faith estimate of facilities required to interconnect.

WHAT YOU DO

  • Execute the Feasibility Study Agreement (FSA) (Attachment 6) of the SGIP
  • Deposit of $1,000 dollars should have been submitted with Interconnection Request
  • Submit all required technical data

WHAT TEP DOES

  • Provides you with an Interconnection Feasibility Study Agreement (Appendix 2)
  • Completes the Feasibility Study within 30 business days of receiving the FeaSA and provides the report to you

Study 2 - System Impact Study (Required)

The System Impact Study is required. It evaluates the impact of the proposed interconnection to the reliability of the transmission system. It includes a short circuit analysis, stability analysis, power flow analysis, flicker study, and voltage drop study as well as a high-level estimate of cost responsibility and an estimated time to construct.

WHAT YOU DO

  • Execute the System Impact Study Agreement (Attachment 7) of the SGIP within 30 calendar days of receipt
  • Submit a mutually agreed upon deposit to TEP
  • Provide site control for your project
  • Submit all required technical data to interconnect your project

WHAT TEP DOES

  • Provides you with a System Impact Study Agreement (Appendix 3)
  • Verifies site control, acknowledges your deposit and verifies you have signed the SISA
  • Completes a System Impact study within 30 -45 business days of receiving the SISA and provides the report to you

Study 3 – Facility Study (Required)

Following the conclusion of the System Impact Study, a Facility Study will be performed.  The Facility Study includes an estimate of the cost of the equipment, engineering, procurement and construction work interconnection facilities and network equipment needed to physically connect your project to TEP’s transmission system. It also includes an estimate of the time required to complete this work.

WHAT YOU DO

  • Execute the Facility Study Agreement (Attachment 8) of the SGIP within 30 calendar days of receipt
  • Submit a mutually agreed upon deposit to TEP

WHAT TEP DOES

  • Provides you with a Facility Study Agreement (Appendix 4)
  • Verifies you have submitted the deposit and signed agreement
  • Completes the Facility Study within 30-45 Business days of receiving the FSA and provides the report to you
  • Meet with you to discuss results of Facility Study within 10 Business Days of receiving the draft report
