TEP Residential Solar Program

The TEP-Owned Residential Solar Program is designed to remain with the home. If a participating homeowner sells their property, the new homeowner may continue participating in the program by assuming the remainder of the agreement. The new homeowner does not need to qualify for the program but must establish electric service in their name and agree in writing to assume the existing agreement.

There are no fees to transfer the agreement to a new homeowner, and the transfer can typically be completed as part of the home sale process.

The solar system is not leased or financed by the homeowner. The system remains owned and maintained by TEP throughout the term of the agreement.

If the buyer chooses not to continue participation in the program, the seller may elect to terminate the agreement and have the TEP-owned solar system removed. Any applicable exit fees outlined in the agreement would be the responsibility of the seller.

To transfer the agreement:

• Notify TEP that the property is being sold.
• Complete and submit the required Assignment & Assumption (Contract Transfer) form.
• Ensure electric service is established in the new homeowner's name.
• TEP will process the transfer and update the account to the applicable Residential Solar Program rate.

Customers enrolled in the TEP-Owned Residential Solar Program may refinance their homes while remaining in the program.

During the refinancing process, some lenders may have questions about the recorded Licensing Notice associated with the TEP-owned solar system. The Licensing Notice is not a lien on the property. Rather, it documents TEP's ownership of the solar equipment and the agreement allowing the system to remain on the property.

If a lender requires additional information, TEP can provide documentation explaining the program and the rights and responsibilities associated with the TEP-owned solar system. TEP may also provide a Licensing Notice Amendment that outlines lender rights and available options regarding the solar system in the event of a foreclosure. These options may include removal of the system, continuation of the existing agreement, or establishment of a new agreement with TEP.

TEP remains responsible for the operation and maintenance of the company-owned solar equipment as outlined in the program agreement.

If roof repairs require temporary removal of the TEP-owned solar system, TEP may be able to accommodate a one-time removal and reinstallation of the system at no cost to the customer.

Customers should contact TEP before beginning any roofing work so removal and reinstallation can be coordinated. Scheduling requirements and equipment availability may impact project timelines.

Customers may have the option to purchase the TEP-owned solar system installed on their home once it becomes eligible for purchase under the terms of their agreement.

The purchase price is based on the age and size of the system and decreases over time. Additional costs associated with system reconfiguration, interconnection updates, permitting, or contractor work may apply and are the responsibility of the customer. Customers who purchase their system become responsible for the ownership, operation, and maintenance of the solar equipment.

Customers may choose to end their participation in the TEP-Owned Residential Solar Program and have the TEP-owned solar system removed from their property.

Program exit fees are based on the age and size of the system and generally decrease over time. TEP will provide the applicable exit cost before any work is scheduled. Once approved, TEP will coordinate the removal of the solar equipment and return the property to standard electric service.

As owner of the system, TEP will be responsible for all routine maintenance and repairs. Only TEP’s authorized solar installation companies may assist with repairs, maintenance or warranty claims for the system.

TEP is responsible for damage caused by theft, vandalism, storms, fires, natural disasters or other similar unforeseen forces. If the system is damaged through the homeowner’s willful misconduct or negligence, however, the homeowner will be held responsible.
