TEP Smart Charge

Charge Smarter. Earn Rewards.

The Smart Charge Program is currently in soft-launch. Check back soon for updates on open enrollment.

The Smart Charge Program offers bill credits to participants who charge their electric vehicles (EVs) at home during times when demand on the grid is relatively low and renewable energy is more prevalent. Earn $20 for enrolling and $10 a month you charge within your automated, tailored schedule 85% of the time.

Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis until the first 500 vehicles are enrolled.

How it Works

Smart Charge is TEP’s EV managed charging program offered with WeaveGrid, a contractor of TEP. WeaveGrid’s platform develops a charging schedule tailored to your preferences, pricing plan, and grid conditions. Participants can earn bill credits for allowing automatic smart charging adjustments that support grid reliability for our community. Participants can:

  • Earn up to $140/yr in bill credits for allowing shifts in your EV charging schedule to support the grid during times of high energy demand.
  • Get a charging schedule tailored to your specific rate plan and driver preferences.
  • See insights on estimated EV charging costs and usage analytics.
  • Support grid reliability and help integrate more renewable energy into our community’s power supply.
  • Remain in control and override your established charging schedule at any time. Adhere to your schedule at least 85% of the time to earn rewards.

Eligibility and Enrollment

To be eligible to enroll, you must:

  • Be a TEP residential electric customer (up to two vehicles may enroll per TEP account)
  • Take service on an eligible pricing plan:
    • TRRES (Basic), TRREST (Time-of-Use), TRRESD (Peak Demand), TRRESDT (Residential Demand Time-of-Use R-Tech), TRRSP (Special Residential Service), TRRSPT (Special Residential Service Time-of-Use), or TRDSOTE (Electric Vehicle Demand Super Off Peak).
  • Enroll with an eligible EV or EV charger:
    • Eligible EVs: Tesla (all models, years, and trims)
    • Eligible EV chargers: Chargepoint (Home Flex CPH25 or CPH50), Wallbox (Pulsar Plus), Emporia (all EV charger models)
  • Agree to the full program Terms and Conditions

To enroll:

  1. Register at https://charge.weavegrid.com/tep/.
  2. TEP verifies eligibility and processes your application.
  3. Within 1-2 weeks, you’ll be notified regarding an enrollment decision.

Once you register for the program, you need to complete at least one charging session at home for WeaveGrid to begin Smart Charging. For Tesla connected users, this typically looks like a session that increases state of charge at least 15%, or 60-90 minutes minimum. For charging station connected users, this typically looks like a charging session of at least 30 min for at least 0.5 kWh of energy.

If you are enrolled in the program, be sure to remove any schedules set through your home charger after that initial charging session to avoid scheduling conflicts.

You can enroll multiple vehicles or home chargers, but there is a maximum of two enrollment credits ($20 each) and two monthly credits ($10 each) per account.

Compensation

For enrolling in the Smart Charge program, you'll receive a $20 bill credit approximately 1-2 billing cycles after your enrollment is accepted once you:

  • Maintain a continuous device connection to WeaveGrid for at least 30 days after enrollment (you don't need to stay plugged in constantly – just keep the connection active).
  • Remain a TEP residential electric customer.

For participating each month, you'll receive a $10 bill credit the following month if you:

  • Maintain a monthly Smart Score of at least 85% (see FAQs below – “What do 'Smart' Times mean and how is my Smart Score calculated?”)
  • Have at least one home charging event per month
  • Remain a TEP residential electric customer

How Does the Program Work?

Register
Register for the program here with an eligible device. Complete at least one charging session at home (see "Eligibility and Enrollment" above for more details)
Plug in at Home
Once enrolled, continue plugging in your vehicle at home. Once you have completed at least one charging session at home (see “Eligibility and Enrollment” above for more details), remove any schedules set with your home charger to avoid management conflicts. You do not need to remove any scheduling set with your Tesla vehicle.

WeaveGrid will develop a schedule around your set preferences, pricing plan, and grid conditions, and automatically adjust your charging window. During times of peak energy demand, “demand response” events may be called that further optimize your charging time to help support grid reliability.
Get Charging Insights
Review your driver dashboard on the web or within the WeaveGrid app to set up preferences and see estimated charging costs. Check your charging schedule, real-time charging status, and other usage analytics within the dashboard.
Earn Rewards

You must charge at home at least once in a given month to earn the monthly incentive.
