This year marks the third year that Tucson Electric Power will be the title sponsor for the Winterhaven Festival of Lights and the 70th anniversary of holiday tradition in midtown Tucson.

This year’s festival runs from Dec. 14-29 from 6-10 p.m. nightly. Most of the 265 homeowners in this historic neighborhood participate in the festival with a good mix of traditional or contemporary holiday light displays.

But in 2017, it was almost lights out for the long-running festival when the existing sponsorship ended. TEP was pleased to step in and fulfill that role.

“We would not have been able to continue the festival without TEP’s support,” said Mariel Hall, Chairperson of Winterhaven Public Events, the nonprofit group that organizes the festival. “We are so appreciative of their financial support and donation of LED lights, as well as the work crews who help decorate our neighborhood. The teamwork between us is just phenomenal.”

As title sponsor, TEP provides the financial support needed to offset many of the operating costs of hosting the festival, such as security, traffic control, portable restrooms and trash removal. In the past two years, we’ve donated more than 11,550 feet of energy-efficient LED holiday lights, in addition to supplying the work crews and bucket trucks needed to string lights atop the tallest trees in the neighborhood.

This year’s festival is sure to be spectacular. If you’ve never been to the Winterhaven Festival, you’re in for a visual feast. If Winterhaven is already part your family’s holiday tradition, welcome back. Please consider bringing non-perishable food with you to the festival to donate to the Community Food Bank.
