Tucson, Ariz. – Tucson Electric Power (TEP) customers who are having trouble paying their utility bills may qualify for a new assistance program.
Power AZ is designed to help working families manage their energy bills in a time of rising household costs. It provides one‑time financial assistance to help Arizona residents pay their energy bills, even if they don’t qualify for traditional low‑income assistance programs.
Power AZ expands eligibility beyond federal LIHEAP limits, allowing a family of four earning $108,000 to qualify for up to $640 in utility bill assistance.
The State of Arizona launched Power AZ in March with support from a $15 million statewide investment that is expected to help tens of thousands of state households receive immediate utility bill relief. Power AZ is administered by the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES), which will determine if applicants qualify for Power AZ or for other available energy assistance programs. Eligibility is based on household income and need.
Dozens of TEP customers have already received assistance through the program. Funding is limited, so customers are encouraged to apply for help as soon as possible.
Applying is free and easy. Customers can visit the DES website for more information and apply for assistance through DES’ A to Z Arizona portal under “utility assistance” or “Power AZ.”
