Summer heat doesn’t have to mean higher electric bills.

Our Budget Billing program allows customers to make the same predictable payments every month and avoid spikes, especially in the summer. The program spreads estimated annual energy costs across 12 equal payments based prior use, with periodic adjustments to reflect changes in usage or rates. Budget Billing user Diane Kent’s two-story house has always been a bundle of energy, literally, for the 27 years she’s lived there.

She and her husband, Andrew, raised four daughters there. Now they regularly host six grandchildren for activities and sleepovers. The fans keep spinning, the HVAC system stays on, and doors open and close as family members come and go.

Their energy use even became a family joke: “What is this? TEP Appreciation Night?” Andrew would say to the children when the lights were left on.

That’s why Budget Billing has been so important to the Kent family: They rely on the stable bills to keep their bills on track. “It gives me a predictable energy bill. That’s the primary reason it works for me,” Diane said.

Diane quickly realized she needed some consistency when the couple, both educators, moved into the house. With two stories, the upstairs would often run much hotter, making for soaring electric bills in the summer.

From her time as a young parent to her current role as an enthusiastic grandmother, Diane has felt that the Budget Billing program has been reliable for her household. She highly recommends it to others. “I feel like I’ve been an invested stakeholder in it,” Diane said.
