As summer temperatures rise across Southern Arizona, Tucson Electric Power is partnering with the Primavera Foundation to help provide critical heat‑relief services to some of the community’s most vulnerable residents.
Through Primavera’s “Water. Rest. Shade.” campaign, TEP will match donations dollar‑for‑dollar, up to $25,000, to support cooling centers, outreach services, and emergency resources for people experiencing homelessness throughout the summer months. Donations come from corporate resources and not from customer rates.
“As the summer months approach, we are concerned for the safety and well‑being of our unhoused friends and neighbors,” said Tisha Tallman, CEO of the Primavera Foundation. “The extreme temperatures are hard on all of us, but they are especially dangerous for those who live outside.”
Funds raised through the campaign help operate cooling centers at Primavera’s men’s and women’s shelters and Resource Center, where participants can access water, rest, shade and other essential supplies during periods of extreme heat.
“Extreme heat puts our most vulnerable neighbors at real risk, and no one should have to face it alone,” said Lynne Petersen, senior director of Customer Experience at Tucson Electric Power. “Supporting heat‑relief efforts like Water. Rest. Shade. is one way we can help protect our neighbors and strengthen the communities we serve.”
Primavera’s mobile outreach teams will also be active throughout the community, distributing heat‑relief supplies and providing transportation to cooling centers.
Last year’s collaboration between TEP and Primavera delivered more than 13,000 heat‑relief services across three cooling centers, helping thousands of community members stay safe during the most dangerous months of the summer.
The Water. Rest. Shade. campaign encourages community members to contribute at a level that’s right for them. The impact of your donation could be doubled with TEP’s matching donation. Click here to support the effort.
