Starting this summer, local businesses can get financial incentives by helping TEP with energy conservation during hot weather and high demand.
Businesses can earn a $50 virtual prepaid Visa® cards when representatives sign up for the Smart Rewards Business program. Participants allow TEP to make brief adjustments to their smart thermostats during peak electric demand periods.
Business customers can opt out at any time and they always retain control of their thermostats.
For business customers who don’t have smart thermostats, TEP is offering a special of $35 for a smart thermostat with installation through our contractors, Franklin Energy.
The new Smart Rewards Business program extends from June 1 through Sept. 30.
Business customers must have a qualified internet-connected smart thermostat, typically used by smaller and medium-sized businesses and often found in homes. Upon enrollment, businesses can earn a $50 virtual prepaid Visa® card per thermostat, up to two. Those business customers who remain enrolled through the end of the season will receive an additional $40 prepaid Visa per thermostat, up to two.
“We’re expecting that this will be a great benefit to our local small businesses that have flexibility with their climate controls,” said Edith Garcia, Senior Program Manager for Energy Programs. “This is an easy way for businesses to earn financial rewards during the tough summer months.”
Participants will be notified ahead of each conservation event, which will typically last two to three hours when temperatures will be adjusted a few degrees above your set temperature. Up to 20 conservation events will be held each season.
Smart Rewards Business builds on the success of the residential program, which resulted in 33.7 megawatts of energy savings just last year. This reduces demand and the need for new power sources to meet energy needs, keeping costs low for everyone.
