Tucson, Ariz. – Tucson Electric Power (TEP) will donate $50,000 to fight hunger as children and families in our community face growing food insecurity.
TEP will donate the funding this week to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, which works with about 400 nonprofit agencies and other organizations to distribute food throughout Southern Arizona. The food bank anticipates a significant increase in requests this month for food assistance.
“TEP is donating these funds to address an urgent, critical need for members of our community who rely on local meal programs, churches, schools and other agencies for nourishment,” said Susan Gray, TEP President and CEO. “Our local food banks and distribution programs are seeing greater need right now, so we’re stepping in to help.”
Like all of TEP’s philanthropic contributions, the donation will come from corporate resources and will not be recovered through customers’ rates. Throughout the year, TEP supports numerous fundraising events and food drives to help feed hungry individuals and families in our community.
“TEP continues to be an incredible partner to both the Food Bank and the community we serve,” said Natalie Jayroe, CEO of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona. “Their generosity will help us provide 150,000 meals to families in need and empowers us to continue to fight hunger and bring hope during these challenging times.”
In 2024 alone, TEP contributed more than $1.6 million and thousands of volunteer hours to help 167 nonprofit groups support community vitality, education, environmental stewardship, and racial and social equity.
TEP also stands ready to support customers who are facing financial hardships. We offer extended payment arrangements, payment extensions and other assistance to help customers who have fallen behind on their electric bills. TEP works with community agencies to offer emergency bill payment assistance. Monthly discounts also are available for qualifying low income customers. Customers are encouraged to call us at 520-623-7711 to explore options with a customer care agent.
