Every time customers take steps to use energy more efficiently, the benefits don’t stop at their next monthly bill. They also include cleaner air and reduced carbon emissions.
Since 2019, TEP has reduced annual carbon dioxide emissions from its generating resources by more than 40 percent, driven largely by the retirement of coal-fired power plants and new clean energy systems. Reaching our long-term, aspirational goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, however, will require more than changes to our generation resources.
Individual actions add up. Between 2011 and 2025, customers who participated in TEP’s energy efficiency programs achieved cumulative savings of more than 25 million tons of CO₂ emissions and 27 million megawatt-hours of electricity by using energy more efficiently. These gains represent one of the most cost‑effective ways to reduce emissions while maintaining reliable service.
Energy efficiency is central to TEP’s long-term planning. Our 15-year Integrated Resource Plans identify energy efficiency as an meaningful strategy for meeting customer needs. By reducing consumption and shifting usage to periods of lower demand, these programs help maximize the value of our clean energy resources and limit the need for new generation.
For customers, getting started doesn’t require major investment. One of the simplest and most effective steps is keeping air conditioning systems in top condition. Regular tune-ups and clean coils improve efficiency, reduce energy use and costs, and can extend the life of your system. “Reducing energy use benefits everyone,” said Camila Martins‑Bekat, Manager of Customer Energy Optimization and Programs. “It helps keep energy affordable while supporting reliability, customer comfort and long‑term sustainability.”
Small changes around the home can make a meaningful difference. Sealing drafts around windows and doors, changing air filters regularly, or installing a smart thermostat can all reduce monthly energy use while supporting a cleaner energy future.
